April 24th was the date of the Road Rally 2010. Jason and Allison asked Tiff and I to join them for another day of driving around Berks County finding the most remote bars. Ben and Jocelyn also joined us as they did last year to form the team Karli's Angels. The Blue Rhino came along for the trip as you will see in many of the pics. We stopped at the Kutztown Tavern for lunch before we made our way to the starting point, the White Palm in Topton. I was hesitant about have a beer before the rally began, but since the Kutztown Tavern has Blueberry Lager, I had to partake. I brought along two growlers to get filled with some of their brews, but they wouldn't let me because I didn't have THEIR growlers. I had to buy them. Forget that. Who ever heard of a place that WON'T sell me beer? We get done with lunch and head up to the White Palm where we get our first set of clues and start time. Of course we weren't two clues into the trip and we already made a wrong turn! It just so happens we found the next 3 clues, so we thought we were on the right track and just missed the first clue. No, we have to turn all the way around putting us about 20 min off pace. Not to worry, this was only the beginning of the day and hate plenty of time to make up time. Ben came up with the brilliant idea to "amateurize" the time over the next few stops, and we did just that. Here are the rest of the stops.... Basin Street Hotel - first time here Virginville Hotel - found out what a shot-ski was. mmmm....jack..... Ollie's Tavern - Hamburg area Sanford's Place - I couldn't tell you how we got there or how to find it again. they do have 24oz Labatt's for $2. tough to beat! Blue Marsh Canteen - my old stomping ground Johnny & Hons - Robesonia All things considered, we didn't do a bad job at getting back on track. We finished 5th overall off the pace by about 6 minutes. We did win the most questions answered correctly. So we ended up getting a bottle of Captain Morgan. It was another good day of visiting places we otherwise never would of been to or found. Can't wait for next year! |
